POMEGRANATES
First they are quite beautiful, both outside and inside--Renaissance paintings are fairly full of them, decorative scene-stealers that they are…symbolically they’re connected with resurrection and hope- The pomegranate has been used throughout history and in almost every religion as a symbol of humanity's most fundamental beliefs and desires, including life and death, rebirth and eternal life, fertility and marriage, abundance and prosperity. Almost every aspect of the pomegranate has come to symbolize something . . . its shape, its colour, its seeds, its juice….
Although on an alkaline diet you should avoid most fruits because of sugar, and that can feel quite a deprivation, pomegranates are alkalising low-sugar fruits, rich in vits C, E & B6, contain a lotta folic acid as well as Bs 1&2 & niacin…they are a great source of potassium, copper and iron, and the seeds are full of omega-5 CLA oils, which neutralise acids—if you eat these wonderful little seeds (great to sprinkle some on top of your raw salads) you get the benefits of juice and oil at the same time…that’s IF you can bear to cut open the rich orangey-red globes at all-recent studies in medical journals show a positive relationship between eating pomegranates and lowered cancerous prostates as well as hypertension—Ok it’s a rather over-used journalistic phrase now, but what’s not to like?
